What publishes automatically

Threads is one of the few networks where a reply publishes automatically, which matters for launches: the conversation under an announcement is usually where the launch actually happens, and on most platforms that has to be done by hand.

Replies wait for the announcement to publish, then attach to it.

Limits

Threads counts 500, and it counts bytes rather than characters, so an emoji costs several. The composer counts the way Threads counts, which is why a post that looks short can still be over.

That limit is the tightest of any network here apart from X, and it is worth writing to directly rather than trimming a longer post down.

What is not offered

Threads has a repost and a quote of its own, and neither is offered here. They exist in the API, but a launch that scheduled one today would be scheduling something that has never been published end to end from this product, and the first time anyone found out would be at the scheduled time.

If you want a Repost on Threads, write it as a card on another platform, or publish it yourself. Everything a person publishes by hand still counts toward the launch and still appears in the report.

Numbers

Posts on Threads are measured 30 times: about an hour, a day and a week after publishing.

Threads reports views, likes, replies and reposts for posts published from the connected account. As everywhere else, read the totals as a floor: they are what the platform reported at the moment it was asked, and a platform that reports late is indistinguishable from one that reports nothing.

Connecting asks Threads for your basic profile, permission to publish on your instruction, and permission to read the insights for posts you published.
