# Media library

A shelf of reusable images and video for your workspace, which participants can pull into their own posts.

Most launches ship the same handful of images to everyone taking part: the
product shot, the logo, the demo clip. The media library is where those live so
you upload them once.

## Upload once, use anywhere

Files in the library belong to the workspace, not to a launch. Anyone on your
team can add to it, and anyone who has joined one of your launches can browse it
and pull a file into their own post.

Alt text written once on the library file travels with it, so a participant who
uses your product shot gets your description of it without having to invent one.

A launch can also name a set of clips on its brief: the files you mean for that
launch, chosen from the shelf. Participants see them beside the composer, so
the approved image is the easy one to reach for.

## Attaching a file copies it

When someone attaches a library file to a post, the file is copied into that
launch. The copy is what publishes.

That means removing something from the library later never reaches back into a
post that already used it, and never into a launch that already went out. The
shelf and the posts are independent after the moment of attachment.

The limit is on the library. Files attached directly to a post are not counted
against it.

## Removing a file

Removing a file takes it off the shelf immediately. The stored bytes are
cleaned up later, on a delay, and only if nothing still refers to them.

The delay is deliberate. Deleting a file the moment a page says it is unused is
how a second browser tab, mid-save, loses an image it had just attached.
